HomeEmpire AgriFuel, LLC is the owner of a planned crushing and biodiesel production facility in Cortlandville, N.Y. The Cortland County-based crushing plant will initially be capable of handling up to 200 tons per day, or approximately 2.4 million bushels of soy and or Canola per year. Annually the plant will produce up to 5 million gallons of biodiesel, 30,000 to 48,000 tons per year of meal and up to 48 million pounds of refined vegetable oil. The facility is being designed to accommodate future expansion, including the addition of crush and biodiesel production capability. Empire AgriFuel will be the first vertically integrated oilseed crushing and biofuel processing plant in New York State, producing both economic and environmental benefits. The project will advance Upstate as an emerging leader in the development and commercialization of renewable fuel technology, as well as increase market demand for New York State soybean and Canola growers, adding to the viability of Upstate’s productive agricultural land base. The development of biofuels helps the environment by decreasing greenhouse gases, since fuels made from oilseeds are sustainable fuels. The total economic impact, both direct and associated, is projected to be more than $47 million, through anticipated increased soybean and canola value, output of the crushing and blending plants, wages, construction and ancillary revenue. Empire AgriFuel is a research partner with the New York Center for Liquid Biofuels at Morrisville State College, which will conduct research in the processing, utilization and development of liquid biofuels and their feedstocks. Applied research will be conducted at the Empire AgriFuels plant, with the New York Western and Susquehanna Railroad and on Morrisville state college's campus. Empire AgriFuel, LLC is a partner with Morrisville State College and the New York Center for Liquid Biofuels in the efforts to find new sustainable energy sources.
